A modification of the popular D-class destroyer series, the Raven was developed with long-range raiding in mind. Stripped of the cumbersome torpedo bays, the Raven can operate for extended periods of time without having to visit a British Port to replenish scarce munitions. This allows it to fully embrace its "Thug of the Sky" moniker, relentlessly harassing enemy shipping and convoys. The lack of torpedoes does impede its ability to influence mainline sky battles, with Raven commanders deciding for the most part that discretion is the better part of valour.

Lieutenant Commander Ralph K. Richards is the Raven's current commander, replacing the recently cashiered Lieutenant John Raines, whose inability to determine friend or foe became legendary among the merchant shipping of the Atlantic. Richards, posted on a D-class ship as a result of indiscreet personal activities, is also a close confidant of Sir Devon Cavendish; given his patron's influence, his time on the Raven would seem limited at best before being promoted to captain of a more "proper" vessel.[1]
