What is Leviathans?[]
Leviathans is a tactical miniatures board game and fiction series set in a world very much like our own 1914, but there are important differences. The first notable change came in 1878, when electroid was discovered. This fluid holds amazing electrical properties--including the power to make things levitate.
So "leviathans" took to the sky: ships that flew in the air with a combination of electroid tanks for lift and steam engines for propulsion. The Great Powers put weapons on these new craft, though many scoffed. Then the Battle of Tsushima brought the Russo-Japanese War--which happened earlier in this timeline--to an unexpected end when the Russian Leviathans soundly defeated the Japanese Navy. This was the dawn of the sky fleets. Numerous small skirmishes short of war were fought between the sky fleets of the powers that had them. Then, in 1914, Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated. The Austro-Hungarian Empire declared war on Serbia, and other powers began to be drawn in by alliances or their own self-interest.
The Great War had begun--but not our Great War. The French Republic, the Russian Empire, the Kingdom of Italy, and the United States of America strive against the Austro-Hungarian Empire, German Empire, British Empire, and Empire of Japan. Russia is ruled by Anastasia Romanov after her parents and siblings were assassinated, presumably by the British. Japan holds territory in South America, and America cannot allow that to stand. Italy follows a new Champion into battle. Armies march across the world, navies sail the seas...
...and high above the battlefields, the thunder of flying battleships heralds the coming storm.
Will you take the helm?
Faction Portals[]
While any ships can be played against any others, the storyline of The Great War involves two loose coalitions of nations:
The Austro-Hungarian Empire, British Empire, German Empire, and the Empire of Japan
vs.
As you can see, this is not (exactly) the Great War you learned about in school. Check out all the factions!
